Treatment FAQ's - Answers

How long does a treatment last?
Before a course of treatment is undertaken a full consultation will be performed to assess your energetic profile.

This usually takes up to 45 minutes and involves some lifestyle & medical questions. Subsequent treatments usually last between 45 and 55 minutes.

Where will I have the treatment?
The treatment is performed on a thick futon in a quiet & still room. Soothing music is played to ensure you are comfortable & relaxed throughout the treatment.

It is important to wear a comfortable, long sleeved cotton top during the treatment and loose cotton trousers. Please remember to remove earrings, necklaces & watches, and switch off any distractions (i.e. Mobile phones).

How many treatments will I need?
The benefits of Shiatsu are increased with continued treatments so a course of five or more sessions is usually recommended. The sessions can be weekly or fortnightly initially, and topped up on a monthly basis.

However, if you simply want to receive a Shiatsu for relaxtion purposes then treatment can be as often as you feel necessary.

Are oils used during the treatment?
Shiatsu is performed through your clothing and oils are not used as there is little contact with the skin.

When shouldn't I receive a treatment?
Shiatsu is a very beneficial & safe therapy. However, as with all therapies, it is important to make your practitioner aware of any pre-existing conditions which may affect the nature of the treatment provided.

If you are pregnant, or think you might be pregnant, please advise your practitioner, as this will affect the treatment you receive.

If you have any of the following conditions and would like to receive Shiatsu, please check with your doctor first :

  • Critical illness such as cancer
  • Thrombosis
  • Any infectious disease
  • Low/High blood pressure
  • Have suffered a stroke
  • Coronary heart disease

Please note that these lists are not exhaustive and other medical conditions may require referral to your GP before treatment can commence. Please email me with any queries.
